So how does a Missouri girl get from William Chrisman High School to a school within driving distance of the Big Apple or Bean Town?
Attend college at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Conn., on a full basketball scholarship is how.
Bears senior Brittany McQuain signed her national letter of intent on Wednesday with Quinnipiac, a NCAA Division I school located 90 minutes north of New York City and two hours from Boston. McQuain, a 6-foot-1 post player, said the school’s location and its longtime coach were two big factors in picking the school.
“It was mainly the coaches and where its located,” McQuain said of her decision. “It really kind of feels like a good fit. I think I will fit in there well. I can see myself there. I really fit in.
“It’s like an hour and a half from New York, and it’s real close to Boston. I also liked the head coach (Tricia Fabbri). She’s been there like forever (15 years) and she just signed a five-year extension. She is amazing.”
The Bobcats are a member of the Northeast Conference, which includes Sacred Heart, Central Connecticut State, Monmouth, St. Francis, Robert Morris, Fairleigh Dickinson, Mount St. Mary’s, Long Island, Wagner and St. Francis.
Last season, the Bobcats finished 18-11 overall and third in the NEC with a 11-7 conference record.
McQuain, a All-Suburban Big Six, All-District and All-Area selection last year for the Bears, plans to major in communications (advertising) and minor in Spanish. McQuain’s decision has impressed her Chrisman coach, Lindsay Thompson.
“I have had the honor of working with Brittany for three years now,” Thompson said. “I’ve watched her grow and she’s grown by leaps and bounds. Her best years will be in college.”
