Lee's Summit, MO —

A big first inning was more than enough for the Lee’s Summit baseball team.
The Tigers scored nine runs – keyed by a David Gerke grand slam – in the first, on the way to a 12-6 Class 4 District 13 championship game win over rival Lee’s Summit North Wednesday at Legacy Park.
“We started off up 1-0 and felt pretty good,” North coach Jeff Diekmann said. “Then they load it up, he hits that slam, we give up another one, and it’s 5-1 really quick before we can get an out.
“We couldn’t get an out to save ourselves.”
Allen Salavitch added three hits for the Tigers (11-6). Jarret Eiskina picked up the complete game win, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out 12 Broncos.
Kevin Medrano went 3-for-3 for North (16-10), including a three-run homer. He was just a single away from the cycle.
The Tigers move on to Class 4 sectional play. They will travel to Blue Springs South, a 4-1 winner over Rockhurst, on Tuesday. Game time is still to be determined.
