BMX/Cycling
■ 8th annual Tour de Lakes Bike Ride, June 27 at 7 a.m. The ride, which honors the memory of Tom Logan, a longtime Lee’s Summit resident and avid bike rider, includes three courses that encompass five area lakes throughout Grandview, Kansas City, Lee’s Summit and Blue Springs. Tour de Lakes starts at the Longview Recreation Center located at View High and Third Street in Lee’s Summit – near New Longview. There is a short, 10-mile ride that encircles Longview Lake. A slightly longer 30-mile ride that includes Longview Lake and Raintree Lake. The longest course is 65 miles and tours Longview Lake, Raintree Lake, Lakewood, Blue Springs Lake and Lake Jacomo. Registration fee is $25 prior to June 26, or $30 the day of the ride. Register by June 12 to receive a T-shirt and goodie bag. Proceeds from this year’s Tour de Lakes will benefit The New Longview Foundation and the Legacy for Parks Foundation. ■ The 2009 McGladrey Team Championship is taking registrations for its local qualifying events in Missouri and Kansas. The online registration process is part of the nationwide best-ball amateur championship conducted by The PGA of America. Local qualifying events will be conducted from February through September. The Section Championships will be from April to September. Local qualifying events with 18 teams or more will advance two teams to their Section Championship. Section winners advance to the national event scheduled for Pinehurst in North Carolina.
