Liberty, MO —

One goal was all Blue Springs needed Wednesday night.
A Corey Minnis goal in the 29th minute proved to be the game-winner, as the Wildcats knocked off host Liberty 1-0 in a Suburban Big Seven game.
“The defense played great,” Wildcats coach Michael Palermo said. “This was a big conference win on the road. We’ll take it. I’m proud of them.”
Blue Springs (10-4, 4-3 Big Seven) and Liberty played to a scoreless draw in the junior varsity game.
VAN HORN 10, KANSAS CITY LUTHERAN 1: A big first half propelled Van Horn to another lopsided win, as well as a .500 record.
The Falcons (8-8) jumped out to a 7-0 halftime lead and never looked back.
“It was fun seeing some of the new players – Oscar Ayala and Ricardo Sanchez – find their pace with the game,” Falcons coach Chris Corrie said.
Yacine Hamchaoui led the Falcons with four goals and an assist. Ayala notched two goals and an assist. Sanchez, Isaac Diaz, Kenney Guitierrez and Tyler Raines each added a goal.
OAK GROVE 5, ST. JOSEPH BENTON 4: Back-to-back goals in less than a minute gave Oak Grove a needed win Wednesday in the Excelsior Springs Tournament.
With the score tied at 3-3, Eric Barker scored a goal and then assisted on Pedro Ramirez’s insurance goal. Ramirez also had a goal on a penalty kick.
“We pulled it off,” Oak Grove coach Calea Bourne said. “It feels good to get it. I’m happy with the win. We’ll take it.”
The Panthers (4-7-1) also had goals from Raf Martinez and Zach Leamon, and won despite giving up two penalty kick goals in the first half.
OAK PARK 2, TRUMAN 0: A late penalty kick sunk a short-handed Truman team Wednesday.
Already trailing 1-0, the Patriots gave up a penalty kick score in the 63rd minute of a Suburban Big Six home loss.
“We were missing four starters, which didn’t help us,” Truman coach Bryan Schmitt said. “The others did a good job. We only had 11 players for the whole match. In the second half, we couldn’t generate any offense.
WINNETONKA 2, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 0: Missed opportunities came back to haunt the Bears Wednesday in a Suburban Big Six game.
Chrisman (2-9, 0-6 Big Six) had nine shots on goal, but couldn’t put any past Winnetonka keeper Chris Fitzpatrick.
“I’m pleased with how we played,” Bears coach John Straub said. “The boys played really well. We did a lot of good things. We were unlucky on several of our shots.”
Chrisman won the JV game, 3-1.
