Hi-Boy Drive In/Post 340 and Independence Post 21 got the job done and the Blue Springs Rod’s Sports A’s didn’t in opening pool games Wednesday in the Springfield Fourth of July Tournament.

HI-BOY DRIVE IN/POST 340 4, OZARK 3: Travis Dye doubled in Aaron Altar with the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning, enabling Post 340 to edge host Ozark in the opening round of Pool 5 play.

Luke Crabb pitched the first five innings for the victory. Alex Merithew earned a save with two scoreless innings of relief.

Altar singled twice and Chance Divers doubled as Post 340 improved to 14-11. The team plays Lebanon at noon and Sparta at 5 p.m. in two more pool games today.

INDEPENDENCE POST 21 4, REPUBLIC 3: It took 12 innings but Post 21 prevailed. Cody Gregory’s two-out single in the bottom of the 12th scored Ross Paschall, who had singled and was running with the pitch, from first base with the winning run.

Josh Felz prevented Post 21 (25-9) from losing the Pool 2 game in seven innings. He homered in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score 3-3.

Tommy Harris worked the opening 10 innings. Bobby Brock pitched the last two for the win.
Paschall had two of Post 21’s five hits.

“We played good defense with only one error,” Post 21 manager Tom Bush said.

BRANSON 9, BLUE SPRINGS ROD’S SPORTS A’S 8: Branson scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth for the Pool 6 victory.

The A’s trailed 4-1 when Kyle Reed tied the score on a three-run homer in the top of the sixth inning. Branson answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. The A’s came back with four runs in the top of the seventh. Corbin Hare’s two-run single tied the score 8-8.

Kyle Roberts suffered the tough loss.

David Stober singled and doubled, James McKinley singled three times with one RBI and Jeremy Lufft singled twice to power the A’s (28-8).

LEE’S SUMMIT POST 189 PIRATES 4-8, ST. JOSEPH POST 11: 3-10: The Pirates and St. Joseph settled for a split of Tuesday night’s doubleheader at St. Joseph.

Lee’s Summit’s second-game loss clinched the Zone 2 West title for Independence Post 21. Post 21 currently sports a 16-0 record and will take the No. 1 seed into the district tournament.

The Pirates are 16-10 and 11-5 and Post 11 is 6-23 and 3-13.
