Blue Springs, MO —

It was not a good day for Hi-Boy Drive In/Post 340 in the Fifth District American Legion Tournament.
Post 340 had a 24-29 season come to an end in a 17-5 loss to the Blue Springs Rod’s Sports A’s and a 7-2 defeat to the Lee’s Summit Post 189 Auxiliary Outlaws Wednesday at Hidden Valley Park.
Kyle Barbeck had five hits in a game for the first time and Matt July scored a personal best five runs as the A’s rolled past Post 340 in the completion of a suspended game from Tuesday night because of rain.
July reached base six consecutive times on three hits, two walks and a fielder’s choice.
“It felt like I was crossing home quite a few times,” July said. “It was one of my best games. I felt comfortable up here. It was a good game all around.”
The A’s finished with 22 hits. Sam Guffey had three and Zach Sutton, Chace Ellis, Kyle Seithel, Matt McHenry and Bret Sutton added two each.
Christian Velez collected three hits and Parker Jones hit a two-run double to lead Post 340.
Ben Briant struck out seven in four innings in relief of winning pitcher Bret Schwartz. Chad Gordon took the loss.
Chance Hill pitched a complete game four-hitter with 11 strikeouts as the Outlaws eliminated Post 340 and kept their tournament title hopes alive.
“Hill threw a good game and we could not get any momentum going on offense,” Post 340 manager Gary Stone said. “It was tough season.”
Jeremy Guzman and Daniel Fuchs each singled twice and doubled and combined for five RBIs to power the Outlaws.
OAK GROVE POST 379 15, INDEPENDENCE VFW POST 1000 BEARS 5: Oak Grove pounded out 17 hits to end a 2-33 Bears season.
David Richards had two singles and two triples, Adam Hightower and Tyler Johnson totaled three singles each and Riley Glasgow and Kyle Thornton added two singles each in the completion of a suspended game from Tuesday night.
Paul Shores allowed only three hits in the game stopped after seven innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Eddie High was the losing pitcher. High and Dustin Collins each doubled for the Bears.
RAYTOWN POST 596 10, OAK GROVE POST 379 4: Raytown then ended a 25-21 Oak Grove season as Danny Apgar scattered seven hits over nine innings and struck out five.
Raytown (18-35) scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
Richards continued his hot hitting with two singles, a double and a home run to spark Post 596, which collected 15 hits. Jarrod Bennett had three hits, Vince Spilker doubled twice and Brian Morris, A.J. Langston and Mike Lynch each added two hits.
Matt Johnston suffered the loss for Oak Grove.
Raytown meets the Lee’s Summit Post 189 Pirates at 2 p.m. today in an elimination game on Hidden Valley Park Field 3. The Outlaws meet Blue Springs Post 499/Fike, also at 2 p.m., on Field 1 in an elimination game. The winners meet at 5 p.m. on Field 2.
