A’s bounce back in tournament

It turned out to be a successful Columbia (Tenn.) Tournament after all for the Blue Springs Rod’s Sports Athletics.

After losing their first two games, the A’s roared back for three victories to claim the consolation championship and improve to 28-13.

Alex Duvall pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight as the A’s stopped C-Town Saturday. He had a no-hitter going until C-Town tripled in its only run in the seventh.

David Stoder singled three times with two RBIs. Wylson Lamb singled twice, and Matt Morrison doubled in two runs.

A 14-hit attack ignited the A’s to a 14-11 victory over Brentwood (Tenn.) An eight-run second inning for a 10-5 lead held up for the A’s.

Stoder was the winning pitcher, and Tyler Barth was credited with a save.

Stoder also singled three times with two RBIs; Barth singled twice and tripled with three RBIs; Kyle Roberts singled twice with two RBIs; and James McKinley singled and double and four RBIs.

The A’s defeated Muncie (Ind.) 6-1 Sunday in the consolation finals as Roberts pitched a four-hitter and Stoder and Wylson Lamb each singled twice, and Corbin Hare singled and doubled.

“It was a pretty good tournament,” A’s manager Mike Rooney said. “We saw a lot of good teams and good pitching. I was pleased overall with how we did.

“We got good pitching except for one game. The hitting came around in the last three games. We learned a lot in this tournament.

OAK GROVE POST 379 5-16, EXCELSIOR SPRINGS POST 236 4-0: Oak Grove took the tough and easy ways to sweep Post 236 in a Zone 2 East doubleheader at Odessa Friday night.

Post 39 rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the opener. Logan Harrison’s sacrifice fly scored Derek Kelton with the tying run, and Tim Collins singled in Tyler Johnson with the winning run.

Nathan England allowed four hits for the victory. Jackson Schnieders powered Post 379 with a single and triple. Thad Madsen singled twice.

Alex Brown pitched a five-inning one-hitter and struck out six in the second game. Madsen, Collins and Kelton each singled twice and Tanner Eastabrooks homered.

A nine-run second inning sealed the win for Oak Grove (17-19, 7-11).
