Missing five starters, the Van Horn girls soccer team could never get anything going against host Pembroke Hill.
The Falcons (3-11) gave up six goals in the first 13 minutes, falling to Pembroke 10-0 Saturday in the first round of the Class 1 District 15 Tournament.
“We didn’t have our starting keeper,” Falcons coach Mike Somodi said. “We only had 12 players. I’m just glad we got through the first half without them scoring their 10th goal. That was our goal, not to get spread in the first half.”
Caffrey Brooks scored four goals, while Taylor Bacon and Emma Eisemann each scored two against the Falcons.
CLASS 2 DISTRICT 13: Ashley Callahan scored three goals as host Lee’s Summit West advanced to the semifinals of the Class 2 District 13 tournament with a 10-0 rout of Grandview Saturday.
Kirsten Vollmer added two goals for the Titans. Katie Davis, Jessie Satterfield, Jessica Luark, Alexa Bondon and Mavis Brefo each scored one goal. Kelsey Ewert and Allison Gochenour each had two assists.
“We are ready to go into the next ground,” West coach Todd Krey said.
West (19-4) faces top-seeded Lee’s Summit at 5 p.m. today. Raymore-Peculiar, a 3-0 winner over Belton, faces Lee’s Summit North at 7 in the other semifinal.
“Lee’s Summit is a quality team,” Krey said. “We’re going to have to go out and be ready to play.”
