One early goal was all Blue Springs gave up to perennial power St. Teresa’s Wednesday.
But it was all St. Teresa’s needed.
A Caroline Gray goal 30 seconds in – right after a Blue Springs injury – was the deciding goal in a 1-0 loss for Blue Springs at Rockhurst High School.
“We had chances, but we couldn’t put them away,” Wildcats coach Doug McLagan said. “It was a great performance, but unfortunately we’re at the stage where we can’t put the ball in the back of the net. It killed us Monday. If we could have done it today, we would have at least have had a tie. We should have gotten a better result, but it was still a good performance.”
The Wildcats (3-4) took seven shots on goal, but could not get one in the net.
PEMBROKE HILL 4, TRUMAN 2: Two late goals snapped a 2-2 tie and lifted the host school past Truman in the opening round of the Kansas City Classic.
The loss didn’t set well with coach Bryan Schmitt.
“We’re not playing well together right now,” he said.”We’re not putting in the effort to win games and until we do we’re going to struggle.”
Taryn Nash’s second goal enabled Truman (2-3) to tie the score in the 55th minute. Goals in the 75th and 80th minutes gave Pembroke Hill the win.
Truman meets St. Pius X at 5 p.m. today and Barstow at 5 p.m. Friday in the four-team, round-robin event.
LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 2, LEE’S SUMMIT 0: First half goals by Morgan Marlborough and McKenzie Kellogg enabled visiting Lee’s Summit North to post a Suburban Big Seven victory over previously undefeated Lee’s Summit.
“It was a good victory for us,” North coach Tim Richardson said. “Several players are injured and we were able to come out on top. Our center defender, Sali Stout, anchored our defense very well.”
Caroline Stanley made five saves for the shutout for North (7-1, 2-0.). Lee’s Summit fell to 4-1 and 1-1.
