Girls tennis roundup: Grain Valley blanks O'Hara

Kansas City, MO —

Two matches and two wins for Grain Valley.
“It’s a great start for us,” coach Randy Draper said after the Eagles prevailed 9-0 at O’Hara Wednesday. “It could have been a 5-4 match. We won a lot of close ones. We were behind in most of the matches and pulled ourselves together.
“It shows we have work to do, but it’s a good start for us. The kids are playing well.”
Katelyn Barr, Allison Ehlen, Ashley Manns, Leanna Meredith, Chelsey Rice and Kaylynn McClain swept singles matches for Grain Valley.
The teams of Barr and Rice, Ehlen and Manns and McClain and Megan Kaldenberg followed with doubles victories.
Grain Valley coasted to an 8-0 junior varsity victory.
BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 8, STALEY 1: The Jaguars remained unbeaten on the season, rolling past the Falcons Wednesday.
Ashleigh Kaberline, Stephanie Adams, Jordan Sievers, Payton Swanegan, Courtney Bauer and Hailey Swisher all won in singles.
The doubles teams of Adams and Swanegan and Swisher and MaKaela Schmidt both won. In No. 1 doubles, the team of Kaberline-Sievers fell 11-10.
“This has been an awesome week for us,” South coach Craig Dierking said. “We are playing good tennis and have enjoyed some good competition. We still have things we need to work on in practice, but I am very impressed on how this team has come together.”
Swanegan won her match 10-0, meaning she has won 22 straight games to open her season – winning 6-0, 6-0 Tuesday.
South won the JV match 8-1.
