Washburn senior linebacker Zach Watkins, a 2005 graduate of Truman High School, was selected as the 2009 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Watkins was also named first team All-MIAA for the third consecutive season.
Watkins led the league in tackles with 108, the fourth consecutive season in which he eclipsed the 100-tackle mark.
Watkins also broke the Washburn school record for tackles in a career with 470.
