Mavs travel to Tulsa on Thursday

■ MATCHUP NOTES: The Mavericks travel to Tulsa for the first time for a Thanksgiving night matchup. The Mavs will look to avenge a last-minute 5-4 loss to the Oilers last Friday. Tulsa remains in first place in the Northern Conference with an 11-3-0 record. The Mavs, who enter 4-8-1 and in sixth place in the North, will play three games in three days, including Friday at home against Wichita and Saturday at Bossier-Shreveport.

■ FRIDAY’S GAME: Missouri Mavericks vs. Wichita Thunder

■ WHEN: 7:05 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.)

■ MATCHUP NOTES: The Mavericks play host to the Thunder for the third time at the Independence Events Center and fifth time overall when the teams collide on Black Friday. All four of Missouri’s wins this season have come against the Thunder, who are one spot below the Mavericks in the standings. Missouri has outscored Wichita 15-5 in the four games and Jeff Christian leads the team with seven points – one goal and six assists – in games against Wichita. Chad Hinz also has four goals in four games against the Thunder.

■ JUNIOR MAVS TO FOLLOW MAVS: The Independence Junior Mavs’ high school hockey game against the Kansas City Stars will follow Friday’s game against Wichita. Admission is free for the Mid America High School Hockey League “Feature Game of the Week.”

■ LAST WEEK’S RESULTS: The Mavericks tied it in the third period only to suffer a 5-4 home loss to Tulsa last Friday on T.J. Caig’s power-play goal with 43 seconds left. Jeff Christian had two goals and an assist in the loss. … Tyler Fleck scored late to avoid a shutout but the Mavs couldn’t overcome a 6-0 second-period deficit in a 6-1 loss at Mississippi on Saturday.   

■ NEW FACE: The Mavericks signed defenseman Bret Tyler Tuesday and waived forward Karey Pieper. Pieper had one goal in nine games with the Mavs. Tyler, a Maynard, Maine, native, had 18 points (2 goals, 16 assists) in 56 games with the ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers last year.

■ NUMBERS, ETC.: Mavericks forward Jeff Christian is currently riding a six-game scoring streak in which the veteran has 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists). Chad Hinz had a seven-game scoring streak snapped in the loss at Mississippi.
