Higginsville, MO —

A lack of intensity was the downfall for the St. Mary’s volleyball team on Wednesday.
For the second season in a row, Higginsville crashed St. Mary’s party and captured the Class 2 District 15 championship, beating the top-seeded Trojans 25-13, 25-19.
St. Mary’s head coach Mike Espinosa said his Trojans were outplayed by the Huskers.
“We came out flat,” Espinosa said. “Higginsville came out playing aggressive. We were very conservative and very flat. We never got it going.”
The Trojans outlasted Knob Noster 25-12, 18-25, 25-18 in the semifinals earlier Wednesday but had no answer for Higginsville.
“We got outhustled tonight,” Espinosa said of the loss to a team his squad had beaten earlier in the season. “They played with a lot more heart. I was disappointed in the effort we gave.”
