A goal off the opening kickoff set the tone for the Van Horn soccer team Tuesday.
Yacine Hamchaoui took the kick and raced down the field, scoring in the first 10 seconds of a 5-0 win over Lincoln Prep.
Hamchaoui finished with four goals in the game, while Tyler Raines added the fifth goal off an assist from Isaac Diaz to power the Falcons (7-8). Hector Valenzuela assisted on two of Hamchaoui’s goals.
“It was a fantastic performance from the next generation of Van Horn soccer players Tyler Raines and Isaac Diaz,” Falcons coach Chris Corrie said. “You will hear more about them next year. Tonight was a chance for the younger players to play, and that was a good experience for them.”
OAK GROVE 1, EXCELSIOR SPRINGS 1: Pedro Ramirez’s unassisted goal in the final 10 minutes allowed Oak Grove to escape host Excelsior Springs with a tie Tuesday in the Excelsior Springs Tournament.
“The wind was a problem in the first half,” Panthers coach Calea Bourne said. “We had more opportunities in the second half and did what we needed to do. We stopped our losing streak and are ready to begin a winning streak.”
Oak Grove moved to 3-7-1 overall with the tie.
TRI-CITY CHRISTIAN 4, AGAPE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 2: Tim Collins scored his first career hat trick, and his final two goals provided the winning margin in a come-from-behind win over Agape Christian Academy of Stockton, Mo., Tuesday at Hidden Valley Park.
Tri-City (7-7-1), which broke a three-game losing streak, trailed 1-0 at halftime but Collins scored off a Craig Lawson assist and Lawson scored off a Kai Ortner assist to put the Crusaders ahead 2-1.
Agape’s Anthony Moses tied it a minute later, but Collins scored what proved to be the game-winner on an assist from Seth Kohsteadt in the 74th minute. Collins added an insurance goal three minutes later, scoring on a cross from Ortner.
