Odessa, MO —

Despite resting several girls for the Class 2 sectional meet, St. Mary’s was still able to claim the team title in the Wellington-Napoleon Invitational Tuesday.
The Trojan girls totaled 103 points to outdistance runner-up Lone Jack (92) in the meet – a make-up of one rained out earlier this season – held at Odessa High School.
The St. Mary’s boys, also competing without their sectional qualifiers, posted 89 points to finish third behind Lone Jack (124) and Wellington-Napoleon (101).
Sarah White led the girls by winning the 3,200 meters in a personal-best time of 13 minutes, 1.50 seconds. She also took second in the 1,600.
Sarah Parr prevailed in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 5 inches for the Trojans’ other win.
“The girls did an outstanding job in winning tonight,” St. Mary’s coach Tom Bates said. “It was a great team effort in that we scored in 14 of the 17 events and had only two first-place finishes.”
Heather Tripp, a sectional qualifier in the long jump, finished second in the 100 in 13.48.
Freshman Tayler Donaldson had a personal-best and season team-best leap of 29-3 1/4 to take fourth in the triple jump. Sophomore Maggie O’Neal’s personal-best throw of 79-8 claimed third in discus. Sophomore Brenda Scharnhorst had a personal-best leap of 13-4 to finish fourth in the long jump, one place behind teammate Jena Hedrick (13-5).
Freshman Henry Hadley Jr. led the boys by winning the 100 meters in 11.72 seconds and taking fifth in the 200. Senior John Dean finished third in the 110 high hurdles and fourth in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Senior Alex Fessler finished third in the 200 in a personal-best 23.66 seconds.
