Independence, MO —

The William Chrisman girls tennis team had little trouble dispatching Hickman Mills Monday.
The Bears lost only 10 games in stopping Hickman Mills 9-0 at Santa Fe Trail Park.
“It was a nice day and the girls played really, really well,” Chrisman coach Kim Leibhart said.
Chrisman, in improving to 4-6 in dual matches, received singles wins from Ashton Phillips, Alyson Phillips, Kendyl Laughlin, Whitney Croucher, Boong Rongdechprateup and Maryanne Hamburg.
The Phillips twins, Laughlin and Croucher and Rongdechprateup and Hamburg teamed for doubles victories.
GRAIN VALLEY 9, RICHMOND 0: Grain Valley warmed up for an important conference match today with a road non-conference win at Richmond.
Katelyn Barr, Allison Ehlen, Ashley Manns, Leanne Meredith, Kaylynn McClain and Megan Kaldenberg swept in singles and each contributed to doubles wins.
“We got tuned up for the big one tomorrow with Excelsior Springs,” Eagles coach Randy Draper said of today’s match, which will decide if Grain Valley wins the Missouri River Valley Conference West title outright or has to share it. “The girls played well. They know (today) is a big deal, so it will be interesting to see how they respond.”
Grain Valley’s junior varsity won 6-1.
NOTRE DAME DE SION 8, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 1: Despite a strong showing, Blue Springs South had trouble getting by perennial power Notre Dame de Sion at Leawood (Kan.) City Park.
Courtney Bauer and MaKaela Schmidt edged Sion’s Lori Kaichin and Caroline Brain 9-8 (6) on a tiebreaker for the Jaguars’ only win.
“Tonight was a tough match,” South coach Craig Dierking said. “Sion has always been the team to beat in the area, and we played them very tight. MaKaela and Courtney did a phenomenal job at No. 3 tonight to claim our only win, but I am proud of how we kept our focus throughout the match, and played to the best of our ability, regardless of the score.”
Sion won the junior varsity match 7-2.
