Blue Springs South is off to a good start in girls tennis.

The Jaguars are undefeated at 3-0 after a nip-and-tuck 5-4 win over Lee’s Summit West Wednesday at Young Park.

Morgan Clarke picked up a win in No. 3 singles, as did Payton Swanegan at No. 4. Swanegan’s win tied the match at 2-2 before the teams split a pair of singles matches  — South’s Madison McCulloch claimed a win at No. 6 — before doubles competition.

The tandems of Makenna Sievers and Hailey Swisher and Clarke and McCulloch served court in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, to give the Jaguars the win.

“Lee’s Summit West is a great team,” Jaguar head coach Craig Dierking said. “With five of their top six seniors, I knew it would be a battle tonight. I am so proud of how this team has come together over the past couple of weeks. When you are part of a great team, everything just clicks. Win or lose, all of these girls cheer each other on, talk strategy and motivate each other.”

The Jaguars are back in action tonight against Liberty.  The Jaguars finished second to the Blue Jays last year in both Suburban Big Seven conference and district play.

BLUE SPRINGS 7, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 2: William Chrisman excelled in No. 1 singles and doubles.

But it was all Blue Springs after that.

The Wildcats dropped the Bears to 0-4 with a 7-2 victory at Santa Fe Trail Park Wednesday.

Saara Toivola, who is a foreign exchange student from Finland, prevailed in No. 1 singles for the Bears. She teamed with Kendyl Laughlin to prevail in No. 1 doubles.

But Savannah Rasmussen, Tara Sheehy, Kimisha Peterson, Rachel Green and Molly Grojean were Blue Springs singles winners.

Rasmussen and Sheehy and M. Grojean and E. Grojean notched doubles victories.

Blue Springs was an 8-1 junior varsity winner.
