One goal was all Fort Osage needed.
Nick Knight scored in the fifth minute and the Indians held off Belton for 75 minutes to win 1-0 and finish third in the Lee’s Summit West Titan Invitational Thursday.
“Our defense was pretty sound,” Indians coach Andrew Fletcher said. “It was not a pretty game to watch. The field was sloppy. We were tired. It wasn’t the greatest match, but it was a nice game to learn how to win.”
Zach Jungmeyer notched seven saves to complete the shutout for the Indians (2-1).
While the one early goal held up for Fort Osage, two early goals were not enough for William Chrisman in the fifth-place game.
Despite taking a 2-0 lead in the 11th minute, Chrisman allowed four unanswered goals – including three in the second half – of a 4-2 loss to Harrisonville.
Jeremy Sagastume put away a Tyler White assist in the eight minute, while Matt Spydell scored on a penalty kick for an early 2-0 lead.
However, Spydell was later ejected with a red card as the Bears fell to 1-2.
“We need to keep our composure, whether it’s a two-goal or tie game,” Chrisman coach John Straub said. “We have to do things the right way to keep ourselves in the game.”
LIBERTY TOURNAMENT: Four goals and an assist by Matt Beaver, combined with three goals from James Bledsoe helped key Blue Springs to a lopsided 10-1 win over St. Joseph Central Thursday.
Leading 3-0, Blue Springs (2-0) let in a goal in the first six minutes of the second half. The Wildcats ripped off seven straight – including three from Beaver in less than three minutes.
“Matt Beaver can be a dangerous player,” Wildcats coach Michael Palermo said. “He’s got five goals in two games for us know. Hopefully he’ll keep doing good things. We’re really putting the ball in the back of the net.”
Christian Delgadillo, Trent Nichol and Jake Lowry each added a goal for the Wildcats – who have outscored their opponents 19-3 in the first two games of the season. Ryan Robinson added four assists.
Three second half goals helped sink Truman (1-1), who fell to host Liberty 4-0.
“We allowed too many opportunities in the box,” Patriots coach Bryan Schmitt said. “They scored two on corner kicks. The ball hit the ground, and they put both of them away. That’s what happened in the first half. Three of their goals came on corners.”
PARK HILL 2, BLUE SPRINGS SOUTH 1: Kyle Young’s first-half goal was not enough for the Jaguars in the Olathe (Kan.) Tournament.
Park Hill scored two in the second half to pick up the win against the Jaguars (0-2).
“I think we played better as a team,” South coach Jon Grice said. “We did a lot of things we’ve been working on that we weren’t able to do against Olathe East (Tuesday) out of the chute.”
Chance Reed made 16 saves in the loss.
SHAWNEE MISSION (KAN.) SOUTH 2, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 0: Inconsistency hurt the host Broncos in the Lee’s Summit/Lee’s Summit North Tiger/Bronco Classic Thursday.
“We do good things, then we make mistakes,” North coach Tim Richardson said. “Both of their goals came off of breakdowns in our play. I think this is a good opportunity for us to grow and develop a little bit.”
