A strong second half paid off for the Van Horn girls basketball team.
The Falcons (5-7) outscored host University Academy 34-18 in the second half for a 52-30 victory Thursday night.
Camilla Neumann led Van Horn by pouring in 28 points, lifting her season total to 353 for a 29.4 average.
“The girls played well,” Van Horn co-coach Anne Rice said. “We had an OK third quarter and powered through the second half after a slow ending to the first half.”
Heather Earley, Shelby Ingold and Elizabeth Leroy each added six points in Van Horn’s second best offensive output of the season.
TRUMAN 66, RUSKIN 23: Visiting Truman remained undefeated in the Suburban Middle Six with a rout over Ruskin, thanks to seven 3-pointers.
Ashley Guenther had 15 points, Kayla Harrell 11, Rebecca Jonas 10 and Brooke Parton and Abby Hix eight each to power the Patriots (14-4, 6-0 conference).
Truman coasted after taking a 19-5 first-quarter lead.
“It was a nice to start the second half of conference with a win,” Truman coach Steve Cassity said. “I like what I’m seeing off our bench. We are getting solid contributions.”
FORT OSAGE 52, OAK PARK 36: Asia Cole had 11 points and 11 rebounds to power host Fort Osage to the nonconference victory.
“She had a great performance,” Fort Osage coach Dawn Williams said. “We got a good game from Haley Thomas off the bench with eight points. She gave us a lot of energy.
“Raven Bunn had five assists. We shared the ball really well.”
Setoa Talimatasi added nine points and Brittany Weir had eight to help the Indians (8-10), who raced to a 30-19 halftime lead.
O’HARA 42, OAK GROVE 27: Oak Grove was eliminated from the Grain Valley Sonic Showdown in the consolation loss Wednesday night. Brittany Douthitt’s 10 points led the Panthers (5-11).
