The Missouri Mavericks have made a switch at goaltender.
The Mavericks announced Monday that they have acquired goalie Charlie Effinger from the Allen Americans to complete an earlier trade. To make room on the roster, the Central Hockey League expansion team announced that it has released goalie Alexandre Vincent.
The Mavs got Effinger to complete the trade of defenseman Sean Perkins to the Americans for future considerations on Dec. 21.
Effinger, 24, compiled an 8-3-1 record and two shutouts in 14 games with Allen this season. The native of Belleville, Ill., a suburb of St. Louis, had a goals-against average of 2.34 and a .921 save percentage with the Americans and was named the Sher-Wood/TPS CHL Goaltender of the Month for the month of October.
He is in his second pro season after spending last year with the Trenton (N.J.) Devils of the ECHL. He attended the American Hockey League’s Texas Stars’ training camp prior to the season, and was the first Americans’ player to receive an AHL call-up on Oct. 30, 2009.
“We’re excited to bring a player of Charlie’s caliber to the Mavericks,” Mavs head coach Scott Hillman said. “He has great numbers this year and a lot of experience playing at the NCAA level for Miami University (Ohio). He was impressed with the Mavericks on his last visit and made a request to come here, which is a true testament to our fans.”
Vincent, 23, was 8-11-1 with one shutout and had a 3.53 goals-against average and .886 save percentage in 20 games for the Mavericks.
“We liked Vinny (Vincent), but his numbers were not as strong as of late,” Hillman said. “He did a great job and earned wins that we wouldn’t have had without him, but we had to let him go and we wish him all the best.”
The Mavericks close out a six-game home stand at 7:05 p.m. Thursday when they play host to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
