The Grain Valley bats remained hot Tuesday.
The Eagles pounded out 11 hits and knocked off host Excelsior Springs 15-3 in five innings in a Missouri River Valley Conference West road game.
“I thought we had good at-bats,” Eagles coach Mark Lyford said. “We maybe didn’t get on base with some, but they were productive and got deep in the count. We took advantage of some opportunities.”
Austin Gouldsmith led the Eagles with two hits and five RBIs. Derek Kelton, David Duncan and Shay Parra each had two hits.
Payton Bosserman picked up the win for the Eagles (5-1, 1-0 MRVC West), throwing all five innings.
ST. MARY’S 9, MARANATHA ACADEMY 4: Two four-run innings carried St. Mary’s to a Crossroads Conference victory at Mill Creek Park.
“Our kids played well and more to our level of competition,” St. Mary’s coach Will Rogers said.
Paul Baker pitched the fifth inning in relief of starter James Newberry for the win.
A four-run fifth inning gave the Trojans (4-2, 2-0 Crossroads) the lead for good at 4-2. They added four more runs in the sixth.
Mike Pocock and Tyler Graef each singled with one RBI and Joey Kenney singled twice to lead an 11-hit St. Mary’s attack.
BELTON 12, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 6: Host Belton exploded for 12 runs during the middle three innings for a non-conference win.
Chrisman (1-6) led 2-0 until Belton tied it in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Bears regained a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth. But Skylar Hibdon, who also had a two-run triple, slugged a grand slam in the bottom of the inning to put Belton (3-3) ahead to stay.
Jo Jo Taisi suffered the loss for Chrisman.
“Our starting pitching was as good as it has been all year,” Chrisman coach Justin Woods said. “Taisi pitched well. Then he hit a wall.”
Chrisman had eight hits. Taisi had a triple; Eddie High had two hits, including a triple, and one RBI; Matt Lickey added two hits and three stolen bases; and Dustin Collins contributed two hits and an RBI for the Bears.
PLEASANT HILL 4, OAK GROVE 2: The visiting Panthers could not get the bats going Tuesday against Missouri River Valley Conference West foe Pleasant Hill.
The Panthers mustered only five hits and no Panther had more than one.
Riley Glasgow had the only RBI and scored a run. Jacob Horn scored the other run.
“Pleasant Hill played well tonight,” Panthers coach Kirk Sears said. “They made the pitches on the mound when they had to, and they had some timely hitting and they made the plays defensively when they needed to. We on the other hand were unable to get some timely hits. We had too many strikeouts and too many fly ball outs.”
Oak Grove dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
KEARNEY 5, RAYTOWN 4: Kearney scored all of its runs in the fifth inning to edge Raytown at Robinson School
“I was real pleased with our defense,” Raytown coach Jaime Oyler said. “In the last game we had six errors. We had only one tonight. We had quite a few outstanding plays. The big inning hurt us. We left runners on base with good batters coming up.”
Chase Kuehl hit a two-run homer to lead the Blue Jays (3-4).
RAYTOWN SOUTH 14, NORTH KANSAS CITY 2: Seventeen Raytown South batters went to bat in the fourth inning as the Cardinals exploded for all 14 runs on 10 hits to defeat visiting North Kansas City in a Suburban Middle Six game.
Raymond Powell singled and hit a grand slam with five RBIs during South’s big inning. Austin McBee added three hits and Joe Samuels chipped in two to help power the Cardinals’ 13-hit attack.
“It was fun to finally have a laugher,” South coach Steve Peck said. “We hit the ball tonight.”
Aaron Smith was the winning pitcher for South (3-2, 2-0 Middle Six). North Kansas City fell to 3-2 and 0-1.
