Blue Springs, MO —

Blue Springs South opened its season in a big way Tuesday.
The Jaguars did not drop a set in sweeping visiting Belton 9-0.
Not only did South not lose a set, the Jaguars did not lose more than three games in any set.
“We’ve practiced so much, it was nice to start in with some match play,” South coach Craig Dierking said. “I couldn’t ask for a better start from the girls. They did phenomenal.”
In singles, Ashleigh Kaberline, Stephanie Adams, Jordan Sievers, Payton Swanegan, Courtney Bauer and Hailey Swisher all won.
In doubles, the teams of Kaberline-Sievers, Adams-Swanegan and Bauer-MaKaela Schmidt completed the sweep.
South won the junior varsity match, 6-3.
TRUMAN 7, PLATTE COUNTY 2: A young Truman squad used a sweep of doubles to secure a season-opening victory at Santa Fe Trail Park.
Bailey Chappell, Stephanie Benson, Alexis Weller and Christa Friend triumphed in singles followed by doubles wins by Benson and Dana Tracy, Chappell and Amanda Lockwood and Friend and Ashley Anderson.
“I was pleased with the way the kids came out,” Truman coach Tara Corwin said. “I have a young team. I was pleased with their play.”
Truman also prevailed 7-2 in the junior varsity match.
GRAIN VALLEY 9, HARRISONVILLE 0: Grain Valley’s young team made a big statement in the first match as a member of the new Missouri River Valley Conference West.
The Eagles swept Harrisonville, 9-0, not dropping more than two games in any match.
Katelyn Barr, Ali Ehlen, Ashley Manns, Leanna Meredith, Chelsey Rice and Kaylynn McClain all won in singles.
“On varsity we played seven, and five of them are sophomores,” Eagles coach Randy Draper said. “In fact, our Nos. 1 through 4 (in singles) are all sophomores.
“Anytime you lose your top four, the first match is going to be an interesting proposition. But what’s nice is the kids on our team have done more this summer than ever before.”
The doubles teams of Barr-Rice, Ehlen-Manns and McClain-Megan Kaldenberg finished off the shutout.
Grain Valley won 8-0 in the JV match.
NORTH KANSAS CITY 9, WILLIAM CHRISMAN 0: William Chrisman fell short in its season-opening match Tuesday.
Alyson Phillips lost a close 10-8 No. 2 singles match. The No. 3 doubles team of Maryanne Hamburg and Bethany Bayne dropped a close 10-7 match.
“North Kansas City’s really strong,” Bears coach Kim Leibhart said. “But I think we should have been closer in a few matches. I think we should have taken a few. Our girls are a lot stronger than they played tonight, and they’ll show us through the rest of the season.”
North Kansas City also won the JV match 9-0.
LEE’S SUMMIT WEST 6, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 3: Doubles proved to be the difference for the Titans in a tight cross-town match.
West swept all three doubles matches – all at least 10-7 or closer – to knock off North.
“This is a pretty tough loss,” Broncos coach Stuart Reece said. “We played well in singles, but lost late leads in all three doubles matches. Hopefully our girls can learn from this experience and apply those lessons to our next match.”
Brittney McDaniel and Brooke Stanke won an 10-8 decision at No. 1; Emmie Andres and Keisha Greene took an 11-9 win at No. 2; and Kirsten Vollmer and Taylor Hines won 10-7.
In singles, Emy Luebbering, Roni Immethun and Kenzie Berwald all won for North. Stanke, Vollmer and Hines prevailed for West.
West swept to a 9-0 win in the JV match.
