Not only will the Independence VFW Post 1000/Jerry’s Sports Bears conducting American Legion baseball tryouts Saturday, they are looking for more players for two younger teams.
The Bears will hold tryouts for the 2010 team at 9 a.m. Saturday at Santa Fe Trail Park in Independence. Players must be from William Chrisman High School or live in close proximity. They also must be 16 years old by Dec. 31, 2010 and cannot turn 20 in the 2010 calendar year.
Players are asked to bring their statistics and previous team information to the tryouts.
VFW Post 1000 also is seeking players, a manager and coaches to form a new age 15-16 Junior American Legion squad that will play in the Eastern Jackson County Kiwanis/Sonic Baseball League and the Blue Springs Wood Bat League and participate in Junior Legion tournaments. Again, these players must be from or will attend William Chrisman High School or live in close proximity. They also must be 16 years old by Dec. 31, 2010 and cannot turn 20 in the 2010 calendar year.
The Jerry’s Sports Bears also will form a new age 13-14 USSSA AA/AAA team to play in the Fountain Bluff league in Liberty or at Legacy Park in Lee’s Summit. This team also is seeking players who will attend Chrisman or live close by and a manager and coaches.

POST 21 TRYOUTS: The Independence Post 21 American Legion team will hold tryouts for the 2010 season for players born in 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1994 who attend Truman High School or reside in the Truman High School district from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 and 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2 at Truman High School.

HI-BOY/POST 340 TRYOUTS: The Hi-Boy Drive In/Post 340 American Legion baseball team will conduct tryouts for the 2010 squad on Sunday, Aug. 9 and Sunday, Aug. 16.
The tryouts will be held 3-6 p.m. at Fort Osage High School. Players must attend both tryout sessions along with a parent so coaches can discuss future plans for the team and its players. Players must attend Fort Osage High School or live in close proximity.
