Oak Grove baseball coach Kirk Sears knew what kind of impact Panther catcher Zach Morgan had on his squad. Turns out, the entire state was pretty much aware of that impact.
Morgan, a senior who transferred to Oak Grove from Fort Osage last year, was named the Louisville Slugger Newcomer of the Year by the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association last Saturday and was presented with the award in Jefferson City at the MHSBCA coaches clinic.
The award is given to a first-year varsity starter who had a signficant impact on the field for his team.
Morgan no doubt did that, providing a dynamic bat in the Panther order. He finished the season with a .441 batting average, an .860 slugging percenage, six home runs, 44 RBIs and 41 runs.
