Blue Springs High School graduate Dom Bradley is having a good week even if his University of Missouri wrestling team is not.
It took just 18 seconds for the heavyweight to pin his oppenent in Friday’s dual match with Purdue in Columbia, but the Tigers suffered a 19-15 loss to the Boilermakers.
The eighth-ranked Tigers trailed 19-9 when Bradley took the mat against Purdue’s Adam Walls in the final match. Bradley, the reigning Junior World Champion, scored fast, notching a takedown three seconds into the match, allowing Walls an escape and then quickly returning the Boilermaker to the mat, where he pinned him in 18 seconds.
“I was upset about the team losing the dual,” Bradley said. “I think I took that aggression onto the mat and went out there fast.”
Earlier in the day, Bradley won again, but the Tigers dropped a 22-15 decision to 25th-ranked Cal Poly.
Bradley scored a 4-1 decision over Cal Poly’s Jim Powers, scoring a takedown in the first period and an escape in the third period. He also earned a point for 3 minutes, 9 seconds of riding time.
Bradley also earned third place in the University of Central Missouri Open last Saturday, Nov. 14.
Bradley and fellow Mizzou heavyweight Mark Ellis, the reigning national champion, both lost in the semifinals. Bradley, though, beat Ellis 2-1 in the second tiebreaker in the third-place match.
