The men’s and women’s soccer teams at Metropolitan Community College-Blue River have nabbed All-Region XVI honors.
Zane Christenson, a freshman midfielder from Blue Springs South High School, was voted to the NJCAA All-Region XVI men’s first team after garnering nine goals and nine assists for the Trail Blazers, who finished 11-6-1 after falling in the region semifinals.
Christenson had the game-winning goal in the second overtime of the Region XVI quarterfinal victory over St. Louis Community College-Forest Park.
Van Horn High School graduate Yacine Hamchaoui, a freshman forward, was named to the second team along with sophomore Michael Brennan, an Oak Park High School grad. Hamchaoui led Blue River in goals with 10 and also have five assists. Brennan totaled eight goals and three assists.
On the women’s squad, Lee’s Summit North High School graduate Michele Smith was named to the All-Region XVI first team. The sophomore defender served as captain for the Trail Blazers, who went 6-9.
Blue River also placed four more on the women’s second team – sophomore Allison Hugill, a Raytown High School grad; freshman Lauren Meinke of Christ Prep; freshman Cecilia Perez of Sedalia Smith-Cotton; and freshman Cathryn Berrera of Shawnee Mission (Kan.) East.
