The Oak Grove Post 379 bats came alive Thursday.
Host Oak Grove pounded out 30 hits combined – 15 in each game – in an 18-8 and 21-1 sweep of Raytown Post 596 in a non-Fifth District doubleheader at Webb Park.
“We swung the bats very well,” Oak Grove manager David Richards said of the pair of five-inning wins that improved his team’s record to 27-12 overall.
A.J. Langston provided the major damage in the 18-8 win in the first game, slugging three-run homer in a five-run second inning. Langston added a double and finished with four RBIs. Langston also earned the victory on the mound.
Tyler Johnson and David Richards each added a pair of hits for Oak Grove.
Darius Hampton hit a two-run homer for Raytown in the top of the first, but Oak Grove answered with four runs in the bottom of the first, five in the second and seven in the third to take control.
The younger Richards swung the hot bat in the second game, driving in five runs on three doubles and a single. Nick DiiBon added a solo home run and Langston had three hits and two RBIs for Oak Grove, which also capitalized on 10 walks and two hit batters.
Johnson threw a three-hitter and struck out nine for the victory.
