1 Before coming to Independence, what were you doing?
I was director of communications for the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League for two seasons. They are owned by the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League.
2 How was that experience?
It was good. It was a really awesome learning experience. I learned about player development, the ties between the two teams and the differences between one-way and two-way contracts. Things you don’t know until you get into them.
3 What drew you here with the opportunity to work for the Mavericks?
I had worked with (Mavericks’ General Manager) Brent Thiessen in Colorado. I had an awesome time with a start-up franchise there. I was excited about being here in a new city and my fiancé and I wanted to try something new. I feel like I’m back in a community again instead of a city full of strangers.
4 How has the adjustment been going from the fourth largest city in the United States to Independence?
Right now, it’s awesome. We came from a smaller place in Colorado before we went to Houston. Houston was a good city, but it’s huge and it doesn’t have a lot of community feel to it. The first day we moved here our neighbors came over and introduced themselves. I don’t think we knew one of our neighbors in Houston.
5 What should the people of the city expect from the Missouri Mavericks on a community level? Obviously we are going to do as much as we can to get out into the community and help out. We are open to anything and we are going to try to be out there in the community as much as possible. We want to get the players and coaches integrated into the community.
