Jamone Boyd, a highly recruited football standout from Lee’s Summit West High School, now face charges for armed robbery.
Boyd, 18, who had received scholarship offers from Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas State and Kansas and other schools, was charged Monday with five counts each of first-degree armed robbery and armed criminal action in a Jan. 23 incident at a Kansas City apartment complex in the 9800 block of Willow.
Court documents allege that Boyd and “four or five other suspects” forced their way inside an apartment with five people inside at gunpoint. After striking two victims in the head with handguns and kicking the door down to another room that contained other victims, the robbers took money, clothing, phones, computers and other items.
Boyd had been cited in November in Lee’s Summit for resisting arrest and possessing marijuana. Boyd, the fourth highest rated high school player in Missouri by Rivals.com, was scheduled to sign a letter of intent to play football on Wednesday.
Boyd turned himself into Lee’s Summit police Sunday afternoon. Prosecutors have requested a $150,000 bond.
