The NCAA recently declared Dez Bryant, Oklahoma State wide receiver, ineligible.
The action was taken because he had lied about his association with ex-NFL player Deion Sanders. I’m OK with Bryant losing some game time for the act, but I don’t understand how this college athlete can be hung out to dry for his transgression while NCAA football and basketball coaches get away with bloody murder.
They never seem to be reprimanded for illegal recruiting, illegal use of funds, etc. They leave the schools and take jobs at even bigger and better universities and make even more money.
Prime examples are the basketball program at the University of Kentucky and the football program at USC. These are two that got caught, but many coaches have walked the line.
I am fine with disciplining Bryant for lying but make coaches toe the same line. The NCAA shouldn’t look the other way because of revenue.
The NCAA has determined that it isn’t about what’s best for college football but what is best to make big money. If you are willing to take down an individual athlete, then be willing to take down a coach as well. Save the righteous garbage and do the right thing.
• Everyone might get a laugh, but I think the Chiefs can get five victories this year. Glenn Dorsey has had three consecutive good games. The defense and specialty teams are coming. Kicker Ryan Succop is a great last pick. He should be solid for a long time.
• The Yankees should have a big advantage in cold weather against the Angels. I can only hope.
• Huge upset – Kansas State victorious over Texas A&M! Bill Snyder is a great coach.
• My quote of the week is from Andre Gide, novelist and Nobel Prize winner: “It is better to be hated for what you are than loved for what you are not.”
