QUICK FIVE QUESTIONS: CHIEFS WIDE RECEIVER LANCE LONG
Lance Long is one of several new wide receivers for the Kansas City Chiefs. The second-year pro spent five weeks toiling on the Chiefs’ practice squad before being activated for the Chiefs game Oct. 25 against the San Diego Chargers. He played in one game for Arizona in 2009 after spending the entire 2008 campaign on the Cardinals’ practice squad. He had two catches for 12 yards in his first game, a loss to San Diego.
1. So how did it feel out there against San Diego trying to help the team win? It felt good, man. It felt real good just coming out here trying to make plays for the team and doing whatever it takes to help the team out. I’m just thankful and I look forward to (the next game).
2. You came up a bit short in your diving attempt for a touchdown against the Chargers. How did that feel? I feel like I made it. I had my left hand underneath (the ball). The referees saw something different. I was hoping that they would call it a touchdown on the field and then they could have reversed it (with instant reply) but, you know, they didn’t.
3. Coach Haley was saying how you work hard in practice and you got an opportunity against San Diego. Where do you go from here? Just keep working, you know? Do whatever it takes to pump the team up. Whatever that may be: special teams, receiver, wherever I gotta be. Just need to continue to work.
4. What kind of energy and effort do you bring to the team? I feel like I bring a lot of energy. Just in practice, improving each day, getting better. Hopefully that transfers to the game.
5. San Diego was your first active game for the Chiefs this season and you were thrown at by Matt Cassel four times. Do you feel like you were just thrown into the fire? Not really. I was just thankful I got to play a little bit. I just tried to make the best out of it, you know?
