The Lee’s Summit Post 189 Auxiliary Outlaws head into the final day of pool play at the American Legion Wood Bat Invitational in good shape.
The Outlaws – behind Brad Phillips’ pitching and Austin Hill’s hitting – blanked Columbia (Mo.) Post 202 6-0 Thursday at Hidden Valley Park.
“It was an outstanding pitching performance by Brad, and we played excellent team defense,” Outlaws manager Mike Gailey said. “Austin is producing with big key hits and multiple RBIs in both games.”
A day after hitting two home runs, Hill had two doubles in four at-bats, including one that drove in two runs in a four-run top of the seventh inning.
Phillips threw a four-hit shutout, striking out five.
Landon Fall and Jake Lutz added RBI singles in the seventh for the Outlaws (11-5, 2-0 Wood Bat). Hill, Fall, Phillips and Kevin Morgan all had two hits and Daniel Fuchs contributed an RBI double.
The Outlaws meet Bellevue (Neb.) Post 339 West at 12:30 p.m. today at Blue Springs South High School and Higginsville Post 223 at 5:30 p.m at Crysler Stadium to conclude National League East pool play.
BELLEVUE (NEB.) POST 339 WEST 3, HAYS (KAN.) POST 173 EAGLES 1: Post 339 West scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to break a 1-1 tie. Matthew Walenz struck out six in six innings for the win. On Wednesday, Post 339 West lost 7-1 to Columbia (Mo.) Post 202.
SPRINGFIELD (NEB.) ASSOCIATED FIRE TITANS 2, WASHINGTON (MO.) POST 218 0: David Perez and Deric Barber combined to throw a seven-inning no-hitter to lift the Titans. Perez went 6 1/3 innings before Barber struck out the final two batters. The Titans (28-3) scored two runs in the sixth to break the scoreless deadlock.
SPRINGFIELD (NEB.) ASSOCIATED FIRE TITANS 2, ADA (OKLA.) POST 72 BRAVES 1: Stephen Bougher and Josh Homme combined on a four-hitter and Eli Nelson had two hits to help lift the Titans past the Ada Braves. Chad Woods suffered the loss despite giving up only five hits in a complete-game performance.
SHAWNEE MISSION (KAN.) STAGS 7, WASHINGTON (MO.) POST 218 2: The Stags erupted for six runs in the second inning to down Washington.
FAIRVIEW (COLO.) POST 10 HISCO KNIGHTS 6, PARKVILLE (MO.) POST 318 2: Brian Sture threw a one-hitter with three walks and three strikeouts to lift the Knights past Parkville.
O’FALLON (MO.) WEST JAGUARS 4, OMAHA (NEB.) OAKVIEW CONSTRUCTION SKYHAWKS 3: Brandon Smith and Zach Loraine each drove in runs in the Jaguars’ four-run second inning. Kyle Tennant earned the win and Loraine earned the save.
O’FALLON (MO.) WEST JAGUARS 5, BLUE VALLEY (KAN.) NORTHWEST HUSKIES 1: Catcher Zach Loraine homered and doubled with three RBIs and Alex Belew struck out 14 and walked none in a complete-game four-hitter as the West Jaguars downed the Huskies to improve to 3-0 in the American League North Division play.
PAPILLION (NEB.) POST 32 PINNACLE BANK 5, QUINCY (ILL.) POST 37 0: Pat Foral threw a one-hitter and struck out 10 to lift Post 32 to the win.
DESOTO (MO.) SMCI 4, QUINCY (ILL.) POST 37 0: Chris Lehnhoff threw a four-hit shutout with no walks and four strikeouts and Justin Goforth's two-run double keyed a four-run sixth inning in DeSoto SMCI's win over Quincy. Neal Finch added two hits for SMCI.
SALINA (KAN.) POST 62 FALCONS 1, PEKIN (ILL.) LEGION RED 0: Tyler Benton fired a three-hitter and struck out 17 as Salina made a single run in the top of the first inning hold up in a win over Pekin Red. Tanner Vinson led off with a single and eventually scored on Conner Martin's sacrifice fly for the lone run. Trent Friedrich took the loss despite allowing just four hits and no walks in a complete game.
SEDALIA (MO.) POST 642 TRAVELERS 4, LINCOLN (NEB.) AMIGOS 3: Jared Hagedorn had two hits and Dom Smith got starter Logan Smith out of a seventh-inning jam to boost Sedalia to an American League West Division victory. Dom Smith earned the save while Logan Smith got the win. Tobin Wyatt had two hits to lead the Amigos, who scored a run in the seventh. Caleb Orth took the loss.
LINCOLN (NEB.) POST 3 UNION BANK 6, LANSING (KAN.) POST 411 CALVARY 5: Alex Jones singled in the winning run in the top of the eighth inning to lift Post 3 Union Bank. Jones also earned the save in relief of starter Brandon Nickolite, throwing a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
