JULY 5: Prairie Paradise – 9:30-11 a.m. for ages 6-8 at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Come to Burr Oak Woods Nature Center to explore our natural prairies and search for prairie grasses, flowers and animals. Also learn about prairie habitats and the formation of prairies. JULY 5: Night Invaders – 8:30-9:30 p.m. for families with children ages 8 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. See the wide variety of insects and animals to view at night. Come to the Nature Center for a chance to listen and capture these creatures of the night. Dress for the weather and wear bug spray. Call 816-228-3766 to register.
JULY 6: Predator Prey – 1-2 p.m. or 2:30-3:30 p.m. for ages 6-8 at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Visit with Burr Oak Woods naturalist Justin Whitman to learn the adaptations of predators. Learn about Missouri’s natural predator and prey cycle. The program will then take participants outside to search for live predators and prey. Dress for the weather. Call 816-228-3766 to register.
JULY 10: Discover Nature Women: Ruby Gems – 6-7:30 p.m. for women ages 14 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs (daughters ages 14-17 must be accompanied by an adult woman). Women’s-only program to learn new skills and discover nature. In this program, learn about hummingbirds. Learn how to attract these special birds, learn what native plants to plant and how to help them avoid predators. Sunscreen and bug spray recommended. Dress for the weather. JULY 13: Fish Fest – 6-7:30 p.m. for families with children ages 5 and older at Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Enjoy games, fishing, and dip netting at our educational pond. Learn about the different kinds of sport fish in Missouri and basic fishing techniques to enhance your next fishing experience. Equipment and worms provided. Attendees age 16-64 must have a valid fishing license. Sunscreen and bug spray is recommended. Dress for the weather. Call 816-228-3766 to register.

BURR OAKS FEEDING TIME: 3 p.m. on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs. Help feed the animals on display at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center. No registration is required. Please call 816-228-3766 for more information.
LAKE CITY SHOOTING HOURS: Hours for public shooting are Wednesday through Sunday at Lake City Range and Training Center near Blue Springs. Shooters are required to provide own eye and ear protection. Booth fees are $3 per hour. 229-4448.
