Blue Springs, MO —

Riley Reynolds was the type of athlete who never talked a lot, but rather let his play do his talking.
And for the last three years, his athletic accomplishments spoke quite loudly – starting in three sports all three years at Blue Springs South: soccer, basketball and baseball.
However a broken foot slowed the senior in his final soccer season, but not enough to prevent the two-time all-state performer from being named Examiner All-Area Player of the Year.
However, Reynolds re-injured the foot in basketball season, missing most of the year.
“That’s one of the worst things, just watching,” Reynolds said.
When he returned, Reynolds had multiple 20-plus scoring games for the Jaguars.
Then in baseball, things finally came together.
Reynolds – the shortstop and leadoff hitter for the Jags – helped lead South to a 20-plus win season – the winningest season in South history. He also set a career high with five home runs, competing with fellow seniors Kellen Bartlett and Jeff Lusardi for the team lead.
“That was a lot of fun,” Reynolds said. “If I hit a home run, it was cool. But it was more about winning games. It was a great team. We were close and had a blast.”
Reynolds now heads to Vanderbilt University to play baseball – a program that has established itself as one of the best in the nation.
“I’m excited,” he said. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about the program. I’m ready to go out there, get better and see what happens after that.”
