The Drumm Farm Golf Club, created and sitting on 280 acres of preserved Independence farmland, is for sale, Drumm Farm officials confirmed.
The approximately $3.5 million course with clubhouse facilities, is at 15400 E. 34th St., off of Lee's Summit Road.
The course is owned and operated by Landscapes Unlimited Golf Group of Lincoln, Neb.
There has been a lot of interest in the course, said Hilda Allen, a Realtor who specializes in golf course sales. But Allen said it's too early for there to have been offers to purchase the course.
"Right now, we haven't even started our ad campaign," she said.
Allen said the sale is a business decision.
"Every now and then they (companies) are at a point where they either depreciate or they just decide to sell," she said, calling the move an "exit strategy."
Allen said Landscapes Unlimited owns courses throughout the country. The 27-hole course, with 18-hole championship and 9-hole executive, is "second to none. If you want to experience golf, this is where you should go."
The course was designed by Michael Hurdzan, "a legendary course designer" who created the course around "meandering creeks and rolling fairways," according to the Drumm Farm Golf Club Web site.
The Andrew Drumm Institute owns the property where the course sits and leases it to Landscapes.
Little said the company has kept Drumm Farm officials informed about the possibility of a sale.
"We've talked about this for a long time," he said.
The next owner will assume the current lease, said Drumm Institute Executive Director Rufus Little.
He said the farm's staff has had a working relationship with the owners/operators of the golf course, which hosts an annual golf tournament with proceeds going to the farm.
"We have a great relationship with Landscapes Unlimited," he said, adding that the company also allows for raffles and drawings to benefit the institute. "We work together all the time."
