Fedora haunted home for several years

The young man lived in a rental house a few doors from the home where H.W.* grew up in southern Brazil. A few years later, the young man moved out, a husband and wife moved in.

The first motorcycle was invented in 1885 by Gottlieb Daimler, a German engineer. He attached a four-stroke piston engine to a wooden bicycle frame. For the next few years motorcycles remained largely experimental.

When the word got out in 1825 that the U.S. Government was about to sign a final treaty with the Osage Indians that would open up this part of Missouri for settlement to the Americans, the pioneers came immediately. In fact, as the treaty was being signed, there were about 50 families waiting at the abandoned Fort Osage for permission to move into Jackson County.

On June 7, 1874, the St. Louis Dispatch carried a story that Jesse James had gotten married back on April 24. He married Zerelda Amanda Mimms in a private ceremony in Kearney, Mo. The dispatch apparently got the information straight from the horse’s mouth, as the couple waited in Galveston, Texas, for a boat that would take them to Vera Cruz, Mexico.

Fred Doster arrived in Independence more than 60 years ago, in the fall of 1947, from Manhattan, N.Y. Fred was an actor with the stage name of “Charlie Dorchester.”
