It received little attention from Blue Springs City Council on Monday night, but council members unanimously passed a final plat proposal that will eventually bring another Walmart to town.

By approving the plan, the City Council helped pave the way for a Neighborhood Walmart, a scaled down version of the larger, more traditional stores.

The new store would be located on the corner of Duncan Road and North Missouri 7 in the vacant lot next to the CVS store. It would be approximately 41,000 square feet, which is about 50,000 square feet less than a traditional store, one of which is located on Coronado Drive near Adams Dairy Parkway.

The new store would sit on approximately 4.2 acres. Walmart has owned the property for about three years, according to Mark Bryant, an attorney representing the company, told the city’s Planning Commission members last week.

There was some concern among commission members then over the storm water retention system, which would be above-ground. Commission members questioned its effectiveness and its appearance.

But those issues weren’t addressed among City Council on Monday night, and spokespersons for the company did not speak.
