Filing is closed for candidates in the vacant Independence City Council at-large seat, and it’s likely that a primary will take place in November.
Three individuals – Chris Whiting, Patrick Cierpiot and Rodney Patridge – filed by the 5 p.m. deadline in the city clerk’s office last Friday. However, these candidates have until 5 p.m. this Friday to withdraw their candidacy.
If more than two candidates are certified for the ballot, a primary will take place on Nov. 6. The general election would then take place on Feb. 5, 2013.
The City Council adopted the special election to fill the at-large council seat vacancy. Former council member Lucy Young resigned in early July.
