Fike Corporation is becoming a partner in the city of Blue Springs’ Veterans Way Memorial.
The Blue Springs company is presenting a $10,000 check to Mayor Carson Ross later this week for use in the project that will be located in Pink Hill Park.
The Veterans Way Memorial is dedicated to the sacrifice, courage and valor of all veterans who served the United States. The memorial identifies the site where “The Wall That Heals,” the smaller replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall, was exhibited in Blue Springs two years ago. It will also serve as a place for personal contemplation or reflection for veterans and veterans’ families and friends as well as provides a site for educating youth about the historical significance of wars fought in defense of the country.
“We are honored to be a lead partner for this historic memorial dedicated to veterans of all wars fought in defense of our nation,” Chuck Kopoulos, president and CEO of Fike Corporation, said in a news release. “Fike is proud to be known as an active business partner and a supporter of our veterans in the Blue Springs community.”
More than 50,000 people visited “The Wall That Heals” exhibit when it came to Blue Springs in 2010. The Veterans Way Memorial will commemorate the event and stand at the entrance to Pink Hill Park. An art piece from the city’s “Time in Place” will be at the center of the memorial, and a bench will be placed in front, giving visitors a place to sit. Organizers of the memorial are hoping to break ground sometime in August.
The memorial is being funded through private donations. All funds are set up with the Truman Heartland Community Foundation. Donations can be made through the foundation’s website at www.thcf.org. Select the “Donate Now” box in the upper left corner, and type “Veterans Way Memorial” as the fund name. All donations are tax deductible.
