Police are seeking a Blue Springs man possibly involved in the shooting of his estranged girlfriend in Grain Valley late Tuesday afternoon.

The victim, in her early 30s, was in critical condition late Tuesday at an area hospital, according to Grain Valley Police Chief Aaron Ambrose.

Police are seeking Alan Duane Lovelace, 36, a Blue Springs resident, as a “person of interest” in the case. Ambrose said Lovelace is 5-foot-10, 170 to 190 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. Ambrose said police believe he is driving the victim’s car, a 2002 “gold or silver” Chevrolet minivan with Missouri license plate number MG4-LOB.

Ambrose said the employee of OOIDA – the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association – was leaving work approximately 5:40 p.m. Ambrose said while the Oak Grove resident was in the parking lot, an unknown assailant shot her in the back of the head. He said police are reviewing surveillance videos.

Ambrose said early information is that the shooting might be domestic violence related.

“We know that they had been recently involved in a relationship,” Ambrose said. “We believe it’s a domestic related issue.”

Ambrose said Lovelace should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information is asked to call 911, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 816-524-4302 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-874-TIPS (8477).
