Filing for the April 2 election has started in most school districts, and candidates are lining up for the opportunity to run.

People can file during normal office hours at the central office in their school district. Offices will be closed during winter break, Dec. 24 to Jan. 2. Filing will re-open Jan. 3 and close at 5 p.m. Jan. 15.

Candidates must be resident taxpayers of the school district and have resided in Missouri for at least one year preceding the election. In addition, they must be at least 24 years old.

The following have filed in each of the area school districts. An alternate date for the start of filing, Dec. 18, applies only to the Lee’s Summit School District. The Independence School District only has elections in even years, so there is no election in 2013.

Blue Springs – Incumbents Dave Wright and Rhonda Gilstrap have filed. Two seats are open, and terms are for three years.

Fort Osage – Incumbents Sharon Dankenbring and Carol Marcks were the only two people to file on the first day. Two seats are open, and terms are for three years.

Grain Valley – Incumbent Michael Hackett is the only person to have filed Tuesday. Two seats are open, including a seat now filled by Julie Groff, who has not yet filed. Terms are for three years.
