A jury trial scheduled for the Independence man accused of murdering his brother in Carrollton, Mo., in January 2011 has been postponed.
David L. Womack, 47, is charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action.
Several hearings have been delayed and rescheduled in the case, which has been transferred from Carroll County to Ray County. A jury trial was initially scheduled to begin on May 21 but court officials in Ray County said that was postponed on Wednesday.
Attempts to reach the Carroll County prosecutor were unsuccessful.
Womack allegedly shot his brother, Bill Womack, outside of their mother’s home in Carrollton, Mo., on Jan. 4, 2011. Bill Womack, 58, also of Independence, was checking on their mother, who had been upset about David’s alleged domestic violence rampage on his girlfriend prior to the shooting.
Womack was apprehended in eastern Independence near Blue Springs later on Jan. 4 after leading police on a high-speed chase.
