Independence police are seeking a person of interest in the shooting death of a Kansas City man on Monday at Rotary Park in southwest Independence.
The police are seeking Sergio E. Amador, 28, of Kansas City, as a person of interest in the death of Adam B. Trent, 28, of Kansas City, who was identified Tuesday as the victim of the shooting at Rotary Park on Labor Day.
Amador is described as 5-foot-9, weighing about 210 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair.
Trent was killed and another person was injured in a shooting during an altercation on Labor Day afternoon at Rotary Park at 10615 E. 24th St.
Indepedence police spokesman Tom Gentry said the second victim is also a male, but he had no information on his condition. He was taken to an area hospital after the shooting.
Gentry said police have not yet located the man believed to be the shooter. Gentry said Amador is wanted as a person of interest who may have information regarding the shooting.
Gentry said the shooting happened about 5 p.m. Monday at the park, where a couple of family groups had gathered for the holiday. At some point, an altercation erupted and a man went to a vehicle and returned with a gun. He shot two people and then left in the vehicle.
The victims were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries, and Trent died.
Police found the vehicle believed to be the shooter’s, and it appeared he had abandoned it and left on foot. At one point, he was described in a radio report as a Hispanic male.
If anyone has any information as to where Amador may be found, please call 911, or contact the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477, or call the Independence Police Department at 816-325-7330 or 816-836-3600.
