The man injured during an apparent drive-by shooting early Sunday morning in Independence will survive.

Police said the man, who was not identified, was the victim of a random drive-by shooting in northwest Independence early Sunday morning.

Independence Police began getting reports about 1:13 a.m about a suspicious vehicle driving around the northwest area, and callers said they heard what appeared to be gunfire.

A couple minutes later, the dispatcher got a call about the shooting victim near U.S. 24 and Kentucky Road. He had been shot by someone in a vehicle, Police spokesman Tom Gentry reported Sunday.

The suspect vehicle was described by witnesses as a silver or perhaps light gray minivan with a dark stripe along the side. The vehicle was believed to be an older model with a sliding side door and witnesses said the vehicle appeared to be very clean.

On Wednesday, police said they believed two men were in the vehicle, which may also have suffered front end damage after it rammed another vehicle twice.

Due to the number of calls from various locations, the shootings appear to have been random. There were no other reports of anyone being injured.

If anyone has any information regarding the shooting, any suspect or suspect vehicle information, please call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477, or the Independence Police Department at 816-325-7330.

A $1,000 reward is available.
