As insignificant as it seems, Blue Springs just added 8.3 acres to its overall size.
The City Council unanimously approved a request to annex approximately 8.3 acres of land at 2205 S.W. Moreland School Road into city limits. Owners James and Patricia Payne plan to divide the land into two parcels. The council also approved a rezoning request from agricultural to residential.
The request came and went without much discussion Monday night, though it did prompt Council Member Grant Bowerman to proclaim that his family recently had an addition to the family – a grandchild.
“We contributed to the Buy Blue Springs effort,” he said following the meeting, referring to the child’s birth at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Scott Allen, director of Community Development, said the addition of 8.3 acres – and two additional city residents – is indeed a step, though small, in the right direction.
“We’re growing,” he said. “That’s three – two from the annexation and Grant’s grandchild.”
