Independence has declared a citywide state of emergency.
Mayor Reimal is asking everyone to stay indoors and off the roads.
A release from the city said conditions are expected to deteriorate throughout the day and may cause dangerous situations, such as broken branches, falling trees, and downed power lines.
All city facilities are closed to the public but are staffed in order to respond to emergency situations.
Motorists should not park vehicles along streets. Snow plows will be working steadily to keep streets clear for emergency vehicles such as fire, police, and ambulance, as well as utility vehicles transporting crews to restore services should they be lost.
The IndeBus service has suspended service on all of its routes for the remainder of today but indebusmo.com will be updated throughout the day with information related to bus service.
