Jennifer Lyn Verstraete and Matthew Allen Riley were united in marriage in an afternoon ceremony Oct. 4, 2008, at Christ United Methodist Church in Independence. The Rev. Gordon Smith officiated at the double-ring ceremony.

The bride, the daughter of Gary and Lyn Verstraete of Independence, wore a white beaded, strapless gown with pick-up skirt cascading into a chapel-length train.

The parents of the bridegroom are Theron and Dianne Riley of Columbia.

Angela Dorrell assisted the bride as maid of honor, with Jennifer Wagoner, Michele Wright and Stephanie Denny as bridesmaids. Ashley Baker and Stephanie Leabo were candlelighters. Madison Riley was flower girl, with Carter Tymchak and Mason Wright as ring bearers.

Shannon Walls served as best man, with John Cullen, Chris Samisch and Jeff Hawkins as groomsmen. Eric Nevervee, Adam Riley, Jared Riley and David Verstraete were ushers.

The reception was held at the Pavilion at Logan Woods.

The bride received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Central Missouri, and is a senior fund accountant at State Street Bank & Trust.

The bridegroom received a bachelor’s degree in automotive technology engineering design from UCM, and is a platform engineer for Intier Automotive.

After a honeymoon in Cancun, Mr. and Mrs. Riley are at home in Kansas City.
