  •  A trio of Grain Valley wrestlers will be making the trek to Mizzou Arena later this week for the MSHSAA State Championships.
    Dylan Wolfe (220 pounds), Cameron Nadeau (138) and Harrison Bamman (106) finished third in their respective divisions to punch their state tickets at Saturday’s Class 3 District 4 meet at Liberty North High School. The Eagles totaled 66 points to finish eighth in the 13-team field. Kearney won the team title with 203 points, holding off Platte County (192.5).
    Wolf started the day with pins over Warrensburg’s Zeelan Lankford and Liberty North’s Alex Fugate before dropping a 3-2 decision to Belton’s Andrew Goin. He bounced back with a 3-2 decision over Staley’s Logan Shinneman and then pinned Winnetonka’s Justin Whitaker in the third-place match.
    Nadeau notched a pair of major decisions by downing Raytown South’s Andrew Bachstein (13-2) and Raytown’s Briar Packard (18-10) in the first two rounds before being pinned by Kearney’s Kevin Kinney in the semifinals. In the consolation round, he secured a 6-0 decision over Jacob Benson of Belton and handled Staley’s Jordan Steward 5-0 to clinch third.
    Bamman rolled to a 13-2 decision over Belton’s Brenden Lamar in his first match before topping Warrensburg’s Sean Parr 10-4 in the quarterfinals. He then dropped a 6-2 decision to Raytown’s Elias Hamchaoui before bouncing back with a 5-0 decision over Slater Schrimpf of Jefferson City Helias and a 5-2 verdict over Staley’s Seth Otis.
    OAK GROVE BAGS TITLE: After Saturday’s Class 2 District 4 championships, the top-ranked Panthers are primed for a run at the state title.
    Ten wrestlers advanced to state and four snared district crowns at Excelsior Springs. Jacob Best (120), Tyler Brown (126), Bryce Mercer (132) and Anthony Barker (138) took home championships to help the Panthers (209.5) hold off second-place Smithville (197) in the 13-team field. Van Horn (31) placed 11th.
    Preston Airington (195) added a runner-up finish while Brock Mercer (106), Drake Hoffman (113), Logan Cairer (145), Taylor Brinegar (160), Dalton Brinegar (170) all came in third.
    In the title round, Best, Brown and Mercer all prevailed via pin while Barker advanced with a decision.
    No Van Horn wrestlers advanced.
    TROJANS END SEASON: St. Mary’s ended its season at Saturday’s Class 1 District 3 meet at Lathrop High School. Hunter Soule recorded the Trojans’ only win on the day and finished 1-2.
