The Truman boys tennis team opened up the season with a pair of victories this week by downing William Chrisman 9-0 on Wednesday and upending Raymore-Peculiar on Thursday.

The Truman boys tennis team opened up the season with a pair of victories this week by downing William Chrisman 9-0 on Wednesday and upending Raymore-Peculiar on Thursday.

Against the Bears, Zach Felz downed Lucas Bru 10-2, Nick Wagner topped Spencer Carter 10-2, Jonathon Brown bested Tim Shaffer 10-5, Sam Heacock clipped Trevor Frogge 10-5, Jared Welch took a 10-3 decision over Austin Twenter and Jewlian Cordry swept Dustin Lawrence 10-0.

In doubles, Felz and Heacock recorded a 10-3 win over Bru and Carter, Wagner and Welch beat Shaffer and Frogge 10-2 and Cordry and Jake Ritchel knocked off Twenter and Lawrence 10-1.

Against the Panthers, Wagner (10-3), Heacock (10-7), Welch (10-3) and Cordry (10-2) earned singles wins while Wagner and Welch (10-8) and Cordry and Ritchel (10-5) bagged doubles triumphs.

“I am extremely pleased with the start to our season,” Truman coach Willis Blinzler said. “... I have been most impressed with how the players have dealt with adversity in their matches. We have had several matches that were extremely close or where we fell behind early. But instead of getting frustrated and taking themselves out of the match, the players have continued to persevere and believe in their abilities.”

GRAIN VALLEY 6, MARSHALL 3: The Eagles used four singles wins and a pair of doubles triumphs to pick up a 6-3 road win over Marshall on Thursday.

Theo Nichols (8-4), Lane Elliott (8-1), Cody Zeigler (8-2) and Chris Eubank (8-5) triumphed in singles while Nichols and Elliott teamed for an 8-1 doubles victory and Zeigler and Michael Hicks took an 8-5 decision.
