Walter Edward Kniffen, 89, formerly of Blue Springs, Mo., died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital.

Walter Edward Kniffen, 89, formerly of Blue Springs, Mo., died Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Poplar Bluff Regional Hospital.

Mr. Kniffen was born August 9, 1923, in Poughkeepsie, New York, to Lester Kniffen and Elizabeth Dorr Kniffen.

Mr. Kniffen served over five years in the U.S. Army during WWII earning a purple heart while saving another soldier. He retired from Rockwell International (RocketDyne Division) in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lonnie; two sisters, Edna and Margaret; and his son's mother, Daisy Kniffen.

He is survived by his wife Mickie Kniffen of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; son, Martin Kniffen, and daughter, Jennifer Case, both of Blue Springs, Mo.; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Niche-side service will be at 1 p.m., April 3, Mt. Washington Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Volunteer Services, care of John J.
